Shelby Newton Goodrum
Shelby Newton Goodrum is a leading philanthropic advisor based in Austin, Texas. She attended Hollins University, where she studied political science and education, and received her Masters in Business Administration from Seattle University. She got her start in philanthropy early, taking on foundational roles in organizations like Seattle Works (formerly known as The Benefit Gang), which introduces young people to volunteering, and starting a junior board for the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Always an active community member in the cities she’s lived, Shelby took on leadership roles with the Junior League and the Girl Scouts while tutoring inner-city youth. Since moving to Austin, she’s reviewed hundreds of scholarship and grant requests for the Austin Community Foundation’s Women’s Fund while being involved in her daughters’ schools. Her community engagement moved her to deepen her understanding and knowledge of best practices within the philanthropic sector by getting a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management with an emphasis in Fiscal Management and Program Evaluation from The Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M and Certificate in Fundraising Management (CFRM) from Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy. Wanting to work with donors and their most trusted advisors, she received her Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designation from the American College of Financial Services and became a 21/64 Next Gen Certified Advisor. This unique skillset has allowed her to work with individuals, families, nonprofits, and corporations that want to be more effective with their philanthropy. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Tom, her two adorable, brilliant, charming, intelligent daughters, Betsy and Laney, and her sweet dog, Tipper. She spends her rare free time taking walks with friends, reading great books, and exploring the beautiful city she calls home.
